Winters in cities are great but winters in Miami are better. Plan to escape for a long weekend or a week. Starting mid-February you can expect pretty consistent heat and decent weather.
Miami Beach, the stretch of land connected to mainland Miami by sets of bridges is home to South Beach and many hotels of all shapes and sizes. Here you’ll find restaurants, nightlife and of course, plenty of place to deepen that tan.
If this is your first time in Miami, this area is a good place to dip your toes into the city before exploring new neighborhoods.
Art Deco Walk
While you’re in Miami Beach you should enjoy walking around and discovering the classic Art Deco architecture. It’s everywhere and you’ll see beautifully restored hotels and run down facades alike but all in classic Art Deco style. Bring your camera as it’s well worth a snap!
Vizcaya Museum & Gardens
Despite being a busy tourist destination the Vizcaya Villa is worth your time. Perched above Biscayne Bay, on Miami’s south side, this Italian style mansion once belonged to a wealthy businessman named James Deering. Built in 1910 it is reminiscent of a time when Miami was surrounded by trees and wildlife rather than freeways. The 34 room estate is in impeccable condition and is one of the best places to take some pictures at sunset.
Wynwood Art District
To see some great street art go check out Wynwood. You can pop in to little coffee shops along the way and some of its 70 galleries, museums and collections. Every second Saturday of the month everyone opens their doors for a community art walk with music and refreshments.
Located on Florida’s southernmost tip, the Keys are an archipelago that can be accessed by plane or car on the incredible 110 mile road linking 42 bridges from Key Largo to Key West! The Keys are a true gem for marine life. To explore them fully be sure to get your snorkel gear out and go dive on some beautiful reefs like John Pennenkamp coral reef state park.
At the end of the road, 150 miles from Miami you’ll find Key West, a town long revered by artists and writers like Hemingway. Here you’ll find a relaxed atmosphere, fun parties and key-lime pie. Enjoy!
